About Interlibrary Loan

OCLC Express Badge

What Is Interlibrary Loan?

Sometimes Dulany Library will not own or have direct access to a book or article you need. Because of this, the Library has agreements in place with other Missouri academic libraries as well as libraries throughout the rest of the world so we can request items from them and they can request items from us.

Who Can Place Interlibrary Loan Requests?

Any student, faculty, or staff member affiliated with William Woods University can place an Interlibrary Loan request through the Library.

What Can I Request Through Interlibrary Loan?

Books, book chapters, videos, or articles from magazines and journals can be requested through Interlibrary Loan. You must have a citation for the book or article you're requesting. For books, we recommend that you check in the MOBIUS catalog before placing an Interlibrary Loan Request--you will often save time by doing this.

How Can I Place a Request?

Use the following online forms:

WorldCat and some of the article databases we subscribe to allow you to place direct requests while you are searching. You can also contact the Library.

How Long Will It Take?

  • Books: 7-14 working days
  • Articles: 3-5 working days

Note: These are meant to be general guidelines only. We make every effort to submit your requests in a timely fashion. After that, it is up to the personnel at the libraries receiving the request to find the item and fill the order.

How Will I Know When My Items Arrive?

If you live on campus:

  • Articles will be sent through email.
  • Books can be picked up at the Library after you are notified of their arrival via email.

If you are an off-campus student or faculty member located outside of Callaway County:

  • Articles will be sent through email.
  • Books will be sent to the address provided in the request.
  • A return shipping label will be included with books.

If you are a faculty or staff member located on campus or in Callaway County:

  • Articles will be sent through email.
  • You will be notified via email you have books to pick up at the Library circulation desk.

How Much Does It Cost?

Most of the time, there is no cost associated with requesting Interlibrary Loan items. We request items whenever possible from libraries that will not charge us. In some special circumstances, usually for rare or unusual items, there may be a charge involved. If the Library decides to ask you to cover part or all of that cost, you will be notified before the request is placed to find out if you wish to continue with the request.

Note: There are charges involved for unreturned or damaged items.
